Gerardo E. Cárcamo, M.D.
Dr. Cárcamo’s interest in weight loss surgery led him to seek additional training in 2003, when he began offering the LAP-BAND® System, or the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band, to his patients.
Dr. Cárcamo began his San Antonio general surgery practice in 1997 addressing gallbladder disease, hernias, intestinal disorder, breast disease, and cancer.
He founded South Texas Surgeons, PA, with J. Keith Wright, M.D., in 2003, now recognized as San Antonio's most well-established weight loss surgery practice. Having performed more than 10,000 successful weight loss procedures, the practice has been used as a model for training bariatric surgeons, not only in surgical techniques but also in postoperative and nutritional care.
Dr. Cárcamo provides a variety of bariatric procedures including gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, and single-anastomosis loop duodenal switch procedures, with a large portion of his practice involving minimally invasive or laparoscopic surgery such as Lap-Band.
Graduating from the University of California at San Francisco in 1992, Dr, Cárcamo completed his surgical training at The University of Texas in Houston in 1997. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the following groups:
